2011 Best Airport Security Screening – Taiwan Taoyuan International Airport

Taiwan Taoyuan International Airport was awarded the 2011 Best Airport Security Screening category. This award comes at about the right time when travelers around the world are most concern with airport security.

“We treat passengers with care instead of suspicion, ” said Yang Chyi-lin, deputy director of the Aviation Police Office.

World Airport Award is based on a survey of 11.38 million questionnaires, 100 over nationality and 240 airports worldwide in 2010/2011 by Skytrax. This award is a highly credible and respected airport award.

2011 Taiwan Buddha Day

On Buddha Day, Buddhists around the world celebrates the birth, enlightenment and the death of the Buddha. In Taiwan, Buddha Day is a public holiday.

The grand celebration was held on the 8th May, 2011 in Chiang Kai-Shek Memorial Hall. This year is the 100th year of Taiwan, ROC establishment. On this day, Taiwanese was also celebrating Mother’s Day and Tzu Chi Day (45th anniversary).

In Taiwan, Buddha Day is also commonly known as “Bathing Buddha” Day. Venerable Zheng Yan explained the purpose of bathing the Buddha is to remind the people the importance of purifying oneself, one’s heart and mind. It is better known in South East Asia as Vesak Day. Under Venerable Zheng Yan, the celebration has become more and more grand, she is hoping that success in this celebration will make more people know Buddhism and understand the teaching of Buddhism.
